No matter how hard you try you can’t out train a garbage diet.
At Unit 2 we recommend “clean” eating. We do not believe in “fad” diets. Those diets typically do not work in the long term and will not give you the energy to train hard enough to reach your goals. For instance if you are carb cutting you will lose a lot of water weight, you will not have enough energy to train effectively, and your metabolic rate will go down. In the short term the scale will go in the right direction but it will all come back. That is because fad diets DON’T work. They never have and the never will. The only thing they do well is sell books and DVDs!
What is “clean” eating? Simply put it is eating whole foods such as garden vegetables (darker green the better), lean meats, nuts and seeds, little starch, and limited sugar. Other than pre and post training you want to keep your carbs on the lower part of the glycemic index. You need protein, carbohydrates and FAT every day in every meal if you want to be fit and healthy.
How many calories is based off what you do each day and your lean muscle weight. If you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight and if you eat less you will lose weight.
Carbohydrates should be about 40% of your caloric intake (use our glycemic index chart to help you find low GI carbs for daily consumption)
Protein should be about 30% of your caloric intake
Fat should be about 30% of your caloric intake
It really is that simple!
Remember, abs are made in the kitchen and defined in the gym. You wont be able to see them until you are sorted in both places!
