LUTADOR CHALLENGE AUGUST 6th 2011

Last weekend Team Roberto Traven BJJ took the field of competition at the Lutador Grappling Challenge.  This is one of the largest grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in the South East.  We dominated the competition at the tournament in April so we knew that all of the other BJJ schools in GA would be bringing their A-Game to see if they could unseat us as the Team Champions.  Master Roberto Traven worked with his students tirelessly over the past few months to ensure that we would defend our title as Overall Team Champions for a 2nd year in a row.

Hard work, dedication, and the by far the best BJJ coach in GA paid off once again and we won the tournament.  Our final Adult Team scores was 476; more than twice the number of points of 2nd place's 225 points.

Our GMA Roberto Traven is already hard at training for his return to activity in July, when he’ll be again looking to show what 40-something-year-olds got.

Traven was called up for a superfight at the upcoming July 16 Buckeye Border tournament, which will be broadcast on local television.

Besides Traven, who will be taking on the USA’s Sean Bansfield, Kroyler Gracie will be facing Don Richard (Caíque JJ) in another superfight, while Dorian Robinson (Machado) squares off with John Walus (RJJA).

The tournament to be held at a Catholic school in the city will also offer a course to certify IBJJF referees.

To refresh your memory as to what Traven’s style is like, rewatch this match of his against Rodrigo Minotauro at the 1999 Worlds.

Dymond wins at WBFN 35

Congratulations to Dymond Jones on his victory at Wild Bill's Fight Night 35.  Dymond, age 36, fought X3's Steve Hall, age 26, in a professional Muay Thai fight.  Despite being 10 years older than his opponent, Dymond was able to clinch the victory after 3 rounds of brutal Muay Thai fighting.  It is a testimony to his hard work and dedication to training that he was able to go the distance and secure the win.

Check out the gallery from the fight on Facebook.

Armando Avecilla receives his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Congratulations to Armando Avecilla for  earning his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  It takes about a decade of hard work and dedication to earn a black belt from Traven.  Armando has paid his dues and now has the belt to prove it!
