Youth Martial ArtsKarate is a martial art that originated in Okinawa and was used by locals to defend themselves.  Though relatively uncommon in professional fighting there are some accomplished MMA fighters, such as Georges St-Pierre and “Lyoto Machida, have Karate backgrounds.  This is due more on how the arts are taught in the United States versus the efficiency of the martial art its self.

One of our striking instructors, Randy Pogue, has a background in Karate, and integrates some of the techniques used in Karate into his striking classes.  He has used some of the techniques in these arts to win World Kickboxing titles.

Keith Cotter-Reilly teaches youth Martial Arts classes.  You can find more information about those classes by going to the Youth Karate Page.

The World Karate Federation accepts only 4 types of Karate in its Kata list.  These are Shotokan, Shitō-ryū, Gōjū-ryū, and Wadō-ryū.  Keith has black belts in Shotokan and Wadō-ryū.
